Shaping the future of chrome

Even as global demand for high-grade chrome and ferrochrome products rises, African Chrome Fields is preparing to meet this demand. Through significant investments and expansion, ACF aims to become a leading player within the industry, creating value for both local and international value chains.

Our growth strategy: 2024 – 2030

ACF has laid a strong foundation for success, and is now ready to make an even bigger mark, unlocking new opportunities for growth as a company, while realising tangible benefits for the Zimbabwean fiscus and people.

In 2024, we unveiled our ambitious growth strategy and vision for 2030. During phase one, we plan to establish two new wash plants and strategically relocate three existing wash plants to Lalapanzi and Ngezi. This will increase our production capacity to 50,000 tonnes per month, contributing $100 million annually to Zimbabwe’s economy.

As part of this expansion, Wash Plant 7 has been constructed entirely by the ACF team in the Lalapanzi area, using locally sourced and manufactured materials. This new three-spiral wash plant features advanced Multotec technology, reinforcing our commitment to innovation. Now operational, it has boosted ACF’s overall production capacity to 42,000 tonnes per month, marking a major step forward in our journey toward achieving Vision 2030.

Phase two, set for roll-out between 2026 and 2030, will see further expansion to a total of nine wash plants, increasing chrome production to 60,000 tonnes per month and generating over $150 million in annual revenue for Zimbabwe’s fiscus. Additionally, we will maximise the capacity of our aluminothermic plant, creating over 1,000 full-time jobs across our operations and positively impacting the lives of more than 6,000 community members.

Innovation pipeline

As we continue to innovate for the benefit of our clients, we are in the process of developing a niche low-silica product. With an outstanding chrome content of greater than 46% and silica levels less than 0.5%, this product will be ideal for specialised use in chemical-grade materials, foundry sand, and refractory linings.

“Our plans demonstrate our confidence in the strength and global competitiveness of our products, as well as our belief in Zimbabwe’s future. We’re proud to carry the Zimbabwean badge on the world stage, and to partner in its development by building infrastructure that supports sustainable growth and creates jobs.”
